2015 brings many plans and habits to adapt to.

It’s suffocating to remain stuck doing the same things year after year. The same behaviors and routines that you are used to doing since you were in high school and now continue with at the hustling stage of our lives. I would say that in high school it was much easier to adapt into social behaviors because of your teen friends and the inevitable effect of peer influence. Now, four years have passed since I completed high school and so far I have adapted to some new habits that made it possible for me to obtain something substantial to make life a bit more enjoyable to live in comparison to the life I was living in high school. I must admit that I have gone through difficult and hard times in order to learn the real teachings of life.

Traveling around East Africa and through parts of Kenya has indeed been an eye opener to what I actually need in my life so that I may be able to pursue my dreams and follow the passion of what I want to be in the years to come. Two years after that there have been some major changes in my life. The only way to keep up with what you want in your life is by living your own life; Do what you love and try to change to become something that is a challenge to you. Despite the challenges and problems along with the tough decisions I have made for my life, I have aspired to become one of the few hard working Engineering students at Nyeri Polytechnic and a volunteer in various bases to bring about the change that others believe they can also have.

Working with different groups and individuals has lightened up my thoughts and got me thinking that there must be something that I can do to create a solution as well as to change the perspective that many youth have when it comes to the concept of real life. My first venture was starting a Briquettes business to generate some income as well as to gain experience in that area of expertise. Unfortunately, without substantial research and mentorship it is more likely that you will have to learn some things the hard way and many times you will face failure. A way of gaining experience is to work through failures because this process is what makes you stronger and brings you closer to success. It is believed that in order to be the best teacher you must have experiences many failures before achieving success. I keep working towards my goals by making plan after plan and by starting small to make the burden easier. Many thanks to Penn State Berks for the support they showed me the same year I began. There have been lots of challenges awaiting me after they left and I had to cope with it. Since my desire to have a career in Engineering is the most important thing to me, I had to focus on it and plan the business venture later when I would have the time to do it.

Since there was free time after my first Module in Engineering, I decided to take time and do my research using the internet and business connections for my business idea. I needed to make my plans more clear in order for the next step to be more approachable and to be able to make good profit in my briquettes business. Actually earning a profit is not as easy as it seems. The marketing part is both a scary and a fairytale story all in one that can be a major factor in whether or not the business is profitable or if it will fail due to a lack of appropriate connections. The time spent on researching the market is a key point to knowing the value of your business or an idea.

In the middle of my research process I got to know the importance of learning marketing methods and I made a connection with the DOT (Digital Opportunity Trust Kenya) NGO that trains the youth and women. DOT Kenya works to give all people the skills and knowledge necessary to use technology in order to achieve educational, social and economic opportunities through training on business/entrepreneurship skills, computer/IT skills as well as life skills. I had to make a connection to make a purposeful training session within our Empowerment Center (CYEC) that would benefit our youths with the empowerment trainings providing an environment where they would be able to gain the knowledge in order to cope with their businesses within the CBO (ZYEP). I offer my thanks to the team (DOT) for believing in me and for making it possible to have these empowerment training sessions within the Empowerment Center as well as for training youths and women in our center and within our community. This time I believe that learning the ways of dealing with business and mentorship will motivate the youths to venture into business and make some important changes.

I believe that the change has to start with me and that I will in turn inspire others to strive to look for the best change for themselves individually so that they may also be able to become what they really want in their futures. Starting a team for marketing is the only way to keep us strong, further our learning and to be able to make it big in our business ventures. Participating in a project will provide us with confidence to meet the market with our brands. Nothing is more difficult than something that has not yet been started and in 2015 I plan to work to my best ability by starting small and thinking big.

You may think am losing focus on my career when I am venturing into businesses like I have suggested here, but it is very clear that I am still pursuing my dream career. I believe working in business and marketing also makes me an ideal public relations personnel for my dream career and theses experiences will only build me up and make me stronger.

2015 is the year of my new plans and adapting into new habits building me up every step I take. It is tiresome to keep talking to people asking them to help you with your ideas but instead of helping they end up stealing your ideas and run away after using you. My blog is here to share my ideas, you can’t steal them here because smart minds discuss and share ideas.

Make 2015 a year of change and games.
